hi.

one thing that really excites me about the upcoming weeks is the line up at ruby skye. honestly. oh, if i could just go to them all. that would be heaven.

unfortunately, stoo doesn't have that much bling. but, i am pretty much set to see the lazy dog boys and harry romero. and that's more than good enough, yeah.

and hopefully i will meet them and talk to them. and maybe even give them tapes of me doing dj things, because i am silly like that.

i always try to do that with people that i like. give them tapes. i even did that with eddie amador.

that's actually a neat story. want to hear?

ok.

a month after i moved to san francisco, i went to this. dug and jen and i went and did drugs and danced for a long time and it was fun. it was great fun.

and there were two guys that i wanted to see desperately. mark farina and eddie amador. i had never seen either of them and had always wanted to. so i figured, good. see them both.

and let me tell you, eddie amador is one of my most favorite house producers of all time. everything he has done, i have. everything. he is just the greatest. the greatest. but, i wasn't really sure if he was any good when it came to being a dj.

i mean, sure. yeah, he put out a mix cd. but, those aren't really the greatest indication of one's ability, right? what with computers and all.

right. and then there's mark farina. and i already told you why i wanted to see mark farina, yeah? yeah.

but he was horrible! mark farina, he was horrible. he tried to pull his deep house thing when everyone wanted to be listening to disco stuff. he ruined the night.

but eddie amador! eddie amador fucking rocked the spot. for reals. what he does with acapellas is amazing. he had me jumping up and down. not just dancing, jumping.

and afterwards, when he was finished with his set, i wandered over to the backstage area. i was hoping to maybe see him and tell him that, yes, i loved him very much and that he rocked the fucking spot.

and i did! i met him. i met him because i was lucky enough to strike up a conversation with this guy who had a backstage pass and just happened to take pity on me when i told him how much i wanted to meet eddie amador.

he just let me in. can you believe that? is that not the fucking coolest? i asked him if he had seen eddie and he told me that i could just go look for him if i wanted to.

so i did. and i found him, hanging around.

and when i did, this is what i said:

'hi eddie, my name is stoo (hand shake) can i just tell you that i am so happy to meet you because you are by far one of the greatest producers in housemusic today and really the only reason why i came to this thing was to see you and i was kinda worried because i thought maybe you would be like a daft punk sort of thing where you make really awesome music but as a dj you are not so good but let me just tell you that you were really fucking awesome and thank you very much for rocking as much as you did.'

(i was just a little bit high)

but he laughed and smiled and said thank you. he is the nicest guy. seriously. i mean, really. in retrospect, he was very accommodating to my brightly chemicaled self.

and we chatted for a while. he was a little pissed that he was only allowed an hour to spin instead of his previously scheduled hour and a half. and apparently the promoters never asked him if they could record his set but were doing so anyway. it all seemed little shady to me.

and then i gave him a tape. and i said, 'this is me and my email is on there and if you want it'd be really neat if you could listen to it and tell me what you think.'

and he said thanks. but, he said wasn't sure if he would have the time to write me.

and he never did. but that's ok. i like to think he liked it.

he did an interview in urb a couple of months later in which he said that there are a ton of really good djs in america that never get any attention. a part of me likes to think that, in his mind, i am one of those.

haha. yeah.

but, anyway. fun story, yeah? yeah, fun story.

and ruby skye.

yes, ruby skye. looking forward most definitely.
